Why does the human being reach beyond the invisible? What drives him to seek his origin in God\u2014 a Being greater than all things and all people, the Eternal One? How is he able to recognize God\u2019s manifestations and enter into relationship with His communication? This is what the Gospel speaks of (cf. John 20:31). By what capacity\u2014distinct from thought and feeling, from escapist imagination or projected need\u2014is the human person able to relate to the One we call God, and to worship Him freely and lovingly? What does the human being possess, if not a spiritual soul, \u201ccreated in His image and likeness,\u201d that enables him to discern what truly belongs to God from what is merely human and natural\u2014so that he may turn to Him with confidence, in truth, and without losing himself?
