The human being has demonstrated remarkable capacities for intelligence, sensitivity, and consciousness, showing evidence of freedom and responsibility—qualities that have set humanity apart from all other forms of life. What fuels that unique something within human life, which defines and identifies them as beings capable of love or hate, good or evil, truth or falsehood, intelligence or foolishness, nobility or degradation? All of this transcends the constants of biological life and reveals, within human existence, the presence of another kind of “vital energy” and life: that of a personal spiritual soul, which constitutes them as conscious and free individuals.
