Why does humanity feel compelled to transmit history to future generations? What drives the need to narrate the story of our past?

From the earliest images etched in stone—marking the beginning of historical narration—to today’s most advanced historiographical tools, what compels human beings to record and pass on what happens or has happened? Why this urge to entrust history to time, to memory, and to the consciousness of others?

What gives rise to this profound desire to make present the truth of a past that no longer exists, if not the human spirit—capable of transcending time itself?

As the Bible states in Ecclesiastes (cf. 3:11), God has placed within the human heart the mystery of time.
