After identifying the world of the unconscious and the drives of sexual energy in its unitive, reproductive, and gratifying tension, around the mechanism of “sublimation,” recognized by psychoanalysis, a specific question arises for humans, and only for them: beyond sexual energy, what other vital force or energy can be present in humans, capable of elevating sexual energy and “sublimating” it without “repressing” it out of contempt, fear, imposition, or alienation? What energy can elevate erotic passion if not the capacity of the spiritual soul with its love? Only a force capable of “communion” within sexuality itself can do this, such as the soul created by God, “image of God, male and female,” as the Bible affirms (cf. Gen 1:27).
